Siding Repair

Cracked boards, soft edges or a patch that keeps letting water in? Start with a closer look at the siding and what may be happening behind it.

Taupe lap siding with white-trimmed windows and black shutters.

A small problem deserves a closer look.

What to point out

Loose or cracked siding, swelling near the bottom of a wall, gaps at trim and recurring stains are useful things to photograph. Include a wide view so Carlos can see where the concern sits on the house.

Repair the cause, not just the surface.

A patch is only part of the discussion. Ask about moisture entry, the weather barrier and flashing around nearby openings. The extent of damage may not be clear until the affected area is opened.

Can the existing siding be matched?

Bring any information you have about the profile and finish. An exact match may not be available. Discuss the visible difference between a small patch and replacing a larger section before choosing a scope.
